The story behind Beacon of Light’s eLearning project

Beacon of Light has provided essential mental health training for church leaders, addressing topics like trauma. This training is vital in supporting individuals facing challenges, but leaders are often unequipped to handle severe or chronic issues. Initially offered as instructor-led training (ILT) for local participants, Beacon of Light transitioned to eLearning to reach a broader audience. They partnered with Neovation for curriculum consulting to develop impactful online modules. A two-day on-site workshop with Neovation aligned perspectives and ensured a unified strategic direction. This collaboration proved crucial for creating engaging courseware tailored to the needs of a faith-based audience.



Key components of the Beacon of Light eLearning project

When Beacon of Light approached Neovation, they had an informal framework for live training sessions that varied by instructor. Transitioning to eLearning required formalizing their process to ensure consistency and scalability for a broader audience.

Collaborative Workshop: A two-day workshop in Dallas enabled pastors to share faith-based insights and expertise. This in-person collaboration provided a strong foundation for creating unified, impactful course content.
Curriculum Consulting: Neovation developed a strategic approach to transitioning key topics, such as de-escalation and trauma, into engaging, interactive eLearning modules tailored to spiritual and mental health needs.
High-Quality eLearning: Courses were divided into digestible modules with interactive elements, integrating faith-based components to address sensitive topics effectively and engagingly.

Project Goals

The primary goal was to bring Beacon of Light’s live training events to a new audience through eLearning. While there were many steps involved in bringing this project to light, the project has:

Helped Beacon of Light transition their training for the church community into effective eLearning that’s available online, allowing them to share with a much larger audience
Incorporated a faith-based approach and spiritual elements while still seamlessly maintaining effectiveness as much-needed mental health content
The overall curriculum was examined and edited to ensure content was presented at an optimal length and depth to foster learning and retention while ensuring emotional sensitivity

Unique Challenges

The most significant challenge working on our eLearning project with Beacon of Light was balancing faith-based elements with mental health education. The training modules needed to be mindful of the emotional intensity of the content while remaining connected to the faith-based approach throughout the curriculum.

A critical part of the project was the initial attempt to conduct multiple virtual meetings with over a dozen pastors. It was quickly discovered that connecting everyone would be challenging to complete the project within the required timeframes. To remedy this, Neovation spent two days in Texas meeting with the Beacon of Light team to capture all the faith-based details and seamlessly integrate them into the content.

The initial course length posed a challenge, as topics like trauma required careful segmentation to increase learner retention.

The Final Result

The partnership between Beacon of Light and Neovation has successfully developed three planned courses. The time spent together helped jumpstart the project and ensure alignment in the content and interwoven spiritual elements.

The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with learners responding favorably to the training. The entire team at Beacon of Light praised Neovation's disciplined approach, high production value, and ability to adapt to evolving project needs.
